Course Description

[Enrollment in Psych 445 Undergraduate Practicum provides academic credit for training and supervised experiences in local academic, community, and businesses agencies. Additionally, the goals of the program include the following:
● Professional Experience: Getting you some of that juicy, resume building, hands-on experience that will look great to future employers/graduate school admissions!
● Competency Development: Identifying and acquiring practical skills that may enhance students’ opportunities for graduate school or employment
● Self Exploration & Career Exploration: Providing experiences in self-exploration and assessment related to career goals, and students professional and personal development.
● Applying Academic Knowledge: Providing an opportunity for psychology and related majors to integrate their knowledge of psychology with agency needs, through opportunities for analyzing and resolving challenges in real-world settings
● Self-Impression Development: Gain insight into your professional presentation and demeanor, and grow in your ability to present yourself as a competent professional.]

Expectations for Student Effort

This class is a pass/fail (S/F) course and can be taken for variable credits.

Attendance and Make-Up Policy

In-class supervision meetings are designed to be a place where students discuss learning experiences, personal reactions to practical work, and professional and ethical issues. Students have the opportunity to receive additional supervision and feedback from the instructor and other students. Thus, participation and attendance are REQUIRED— no exceptions! Students who miss even one class risk receiving a failing grade. Unavoidable absences should be discussed with me as soon as possible to determine if/how work can be made up. We will meet every week for an hour during the evening. See Course Schedule below for class dates.
